Orange Creamsicle Martini
Happy Friday friends!! I am SO glad it’s finally here… today the hubs is bringing a cocktail that is reminiscent of his post college days. The days when he played pro ball (as in baseball) for the Casper Rockies. He doesn’t like to brag… but I do. He was baller. yup. still is. Anyhow, now the below story and why hubs was in Casper, WY will make a lil more sense. PS – I’m totally digging how this cocktail matches my blog:
Happy Friday again friends! Man, oh man, it’s so hot out there! Well, here’s a stunner of a summer cocktail and a little story of my inspiration.
Back in the summer of 2003, I found myself in the wonderful little town of Casper, Wyoming. Casper is actually the second largest city in Wyoming (behind the capital city, Cheyenne) but it is so little but so endearing. I lived with the sweetest couple named Rip and Judy in their basement. Rip was a small business owner and the son of a cowboy and Judy was a school nurse. They were like a second mom and dad to a kid who had never been more than an hour away from home. They let me use an old car and a lot of my time during the day was spent at the local mall. The mall matched Casper; it was little. However, it housed an establishment that was both foreign and amazing to me. That establishment was Orange Julius. That citrusy, sweet, chilly beverage reminded me of home and I had one every time I ventured into the mall.
Nothing says summer time like an orange creamsicle. It makes every kid grin ear to ear. It put Orange Julius on the map. It’s the best summer treat for those hot summer days. Just because we’re grown up doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy these iconic and terrific summer flavors. Well, friends, I can promise you this: this cocktail IS the grown up version of the orange creamsicle. It tastes EXACTLY like how you remember it. Flavors of bright orange, sweet cream and soft vanilla fill your mouth and make you remember the good old days of summer time.
Hey folks, you don’t have to be a kid to enjoy the summer and the heat. Let the little ones have their icy pops. You’ve got something better; so shake up this cocktail and soak up the sun and drink to the good times of the past and the good times to come.
Orange Creamsicle Martini
Total Time: 5 minutes
1 1/2 ounces orange vodka (I used Sobieski but any good orange vodka will do)
1 1/2 ounces blood orange juice (if you can't find it, use 1 oz. orange juice, 1/2 oz. lemon juice and a splash of grenadine for color)
1 ounce triple sec
3/4 ounce half n half
1/2-1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Combine ingredients in a cocktail shaker with 1 cup of ice and shake vigorously (20 seconds). Pour into a chilled martini glass and garnish with an orange slice.
