Bourbon Blood Orange Ginger Fizz

Hey foodie friends and happy Friday!  I apologize for missing last week; it seems like every time I turn around, it’s Friday; but I’m not complaining about that. This week I’m prepared and definitely in need of a little end of the work week treat. Without further, ado, I bring the latest cocktail creation; the Bourbon Blood Orange Ginger Fizz.

This bad boy is an autumnal inspired mash up of all things I love. Bourbon is one of my favorite spirits. Maybe it’s because my Granddaddy, who lived in the tough man coal mining country of West Virginia, used to tell me that back in the day when he was under the weather, he’d sip on some whiskey, wrap up in a wool blanket and sweat it out. I love my Granddaddy (as does everyone who meets him) so I guess if it was good enough for him then bourbon would be intrinsically good enough for me.

I love that smoky flavor with little hints of vanilla and that slightly sharp oaky, boozy burn that warms all the way down. Take a great thing like bourbon and introduce it to fresh, tart citrus juice, snappy ginger ale and an amazing ginger infused simple syrup sweetened with honey and this drink WILL be the life of any party.  The flavors are all so vibrant and distinct but they compliment each other so well in this drink. Plus this color of this drink screams “Fall”. It reminds me of leaves changing (which we never see here in South Florida, the palm trees and hibiscus bushes are always green).

Good bye, Summer time. You will be missed, but we are ready to welcome a change in the seasons. So go ahead and mix up this wonderful cocktail and drink to our old friend, Summer and our new pal, Autumn.
