I’m baaack! πŸ˜‰ Had a little issue with my memory card & memory card reader… so my photos have been trapped in my camera (ugh!). I finally bit the bullet and bought new ones so I am now back in business! Anyhow, i CANNOT believe Christmas is THIS weekend! Holy moly that came FAST!

While I SHOULD be posting a recipe relevant to the season (think: Christmas baked goods… a Roasted Chicken or Prime Rib… Christmas dinner sides that will rock your socks off… you know, stuff like that!), I’m bringing you… pizza. Yes, you heard right, p-i-z-z-a.

Not just any old pizza though, Philly Cheese Steak Pizza! Oh, yes! This was just too good to wait until next week…

I live in the world’s greatest location. I can walk out my front door and be at Publix, Starbucks, a Chinese restaurant, a pizza restaurant, AND a Subway all in a less than 100 yard walk! Yes, my friends, that is a dangerous dangerous combination.

When hubs and I have had a long day and I don’t feel like cooking (see i AM human), we usually grab a bite from one of the aforementioned places and bring it home to eat. Lately it’s been Subway. Hubs recently tried the new Philly cheese sub which got me thinking… this would be flipping GOOD on a pizza! Yes, sometimes I have strokes of genius (remember my Eggplant Parm Pizza?!)

Anyhow, I started with a little A1 steak sauce (I know it’s not traditional, but it’s how I like it!), some peppers, onions, and mushrooms, some sauteed steak, all topped with a mix of Provolone and White American Cheese. And this Philly Cheese Steak Pizza masterpiece was born:

You’re welcome. πŸ˜‰

Philly Cheese Steak Pizza

Yield: 8 slices of pizza

Prep Time: 10-15 minutes

Cook Time: 30 minutes

Total Time: 45 minutes

Ingredients:

2 tablespoons butter, divided
1 green pepper, thinly sliced
1/2 onion, thinly sliced
4 ounces sliced mushrooms
1 pound pizza dough (homemade or store bought)
1-2 teaspoons corn meal
1/2-2/3 pound super thinly sliced sirloin steak
A-1 Steak Sauce (about 1/2 cup)
*3-4 ounces provalone cheese, shredded
*3-4 ounces white american cheese, shredded

*I asked the deli to cut a thick slice of each of the cheeses so I could take them home and shred them!

Directions:

Preheat oven to 450ΒΊ with your pizza stone in the oven.

In a nonstick skillet, melt 1 tablespoon butter over medium-high heat. Add mushrooms, peppers, and onions. Season with salt and pepper, and saute until soft (about 8-10 minutes). Remove from skillet and set aside until ready to use.

Roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface. Sprinkle some corn meal onto the pizza stone right before putting dough on it (this helps prevent sticking). Poke the center of the pizza dough with a fork to prevent it from bubbling up. Close oven and bake dough for 3-8 minutes. Remove dough from oven with a pizza peel (It should be firm and puffy, but not browning).

Heat the remaining tablespoon of butter in the skillet over medium high heat. When, the pan is nice and hot, and the thinly sliced steak and saute quickly until just browned (3-4 minutes). Season with a little salt and pepper. Remove from heat and chop into bite sized pieces.

Add a layer of A1 sauce to the crust, followed by mushrooms, peppers, and onions. Next add the steak and finish it off with Provolone and White American Cheese. Bake until golden and crispy (i like to use the convection option to get a good crisp), about 8-12 minutes.

Slice and serve!
