Chagrin Falls Ohio
About a month ago my mom decided she would take a road trip to Ohio. She convinced me it was a great idea and got me on board to go with her. We would drive to North Carolina and pick up my one grandma (Mimi) and then continue on to Chagrin Falls where my mom’s parents live (Grammie & Grampie).
Now, let me clarify, it was indeed a great idea… it was just that hubs and I had literally JUST moved 2 weeks prior and spent that entire 2 weeks unpacking, prepping, and planning for our gender reveal party. Then, 72 hours after the party it was time to hop in the car and drive for 2 days. Not to mention hubs ended up with a hernia and would have to have surgery while I was out of town (WORST. WIFE. EVER.). Oiy Veh.
Anyhow… aside from all of the shenanigans leading up to the trip, I am SO glad I was able to go (with hubs’ blessing)! I got some precious one-on-one time with ALL 3 of my living grandparents. Not a lot of people my age even have living grandparents, let alone get the ability to spend 5 straight days with all of them being that they live hundreds of miles away! It was a really sweet time that I’ll cherish forever.
Chagrin Falls is one of my all time favorite places to visit.
It is the cutest, most quaint, historic LITTLE town and I just ADORE it. I’m not kidding, but when you read those novels that are set in small historic towns… Chagrin Falls is EXACTLY what you would picture in your mind! Main Street consists of a fork of 2 streets and nestled in the middle of the fork is a beautiful grassy strip adorned with an old gazebo. Lining both sides of the street are the cutest little shops and restaurants and of course the overlook of the waterfalls (it is Chagrin FALLS after all!).
Stop #1 on the first night was none other than… Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream!
I scarfed my ice cream down without snapping a photo… sorry – baby wanted the ice cream IMMEDIATELY! 😉 I got the dark chocolate and brown butter almond brittle (AMAZE.BALLS).
I also sampled the Buckeye State (Peanut Butter & Chocolate), Strawberry Buttermilk, and Lemon Blueberry… also INCREDIBLE!
Day 2 we all got in the car to do a little shopping…
This was me with all of my grandparents: Grampie, Mimi, me (and baby girl), & Grammie (my mom was taking the photo).
Where did we go you ask???
Ummm can we just say this is a VERY dangerous place for a food blogger! I walked out with quite the spice haul! Hey… I was saving money on shipping since I wasn’t ordering online, right? Excellent Logic. 😉
Speaking of dangerous places for food bloggers, a few doors down was TRADER JOE’S.
We had a BLAST!
Me with the Grandmas (and the baby bump clearly poking out… lol).
Now, all that shopping made us HUNGRY. My #1 MUST HAVE while in Chagrin is always a Corned Beef Sandwich from Jack’s Deli in Cleveland Heights. I can’t even tell you how delicious their corned beef sandwiches are. The best I’ve ever had. For Real. Plus, they give you homemade pickles that are to. die. for.
Day 3 we decided to drive out to Amish Country.
We visited the famous Lehman’s Harware which is SO much more than just a hardware shop. It’s like a theme park in there! All the old fashioned cooking tools, canning equipment, lanterns, food and artisanal items etc.
It was tons of fun to walk through. We went up the road and ate lunch at an Amish Restaurant and gobbled up some Broasted Chicken and Salad bar that was delish!
Day 4 was spent helping prep for a sweet baby shower that my grandma’s threw for me. It was so sweet and I was able to catch up with people I know up there…
We ate a delicious Archie’s Cake which is a MUST for our family!
And I got to catch up with this sweet girl (shout out Evan! ;))
Day 5: We went to my Aunt & Uncle’s house in the afternoon and hung out and ate dinner with them.
They have CHICCCCKKKKEEENNNNSSSSSS!!!!!
I also smoked my cousin in a game of Bananagrams (Little known fact: I’m a total geek and love board games & card games!).
She was NOT too thrilled.
Oh, and this is Buddy. Buddy and I are TIGHT. He always cuddles with me when I visit and makes me miss my Maddie.
Cavaliers are the best dogs ever. FACT.
The next day we hopped back in the car and repeated our trip home via North Carolina to drop Mimi off. Mimi hooked us up with freshly flaked oats and some wheat to grind when we got home (My mom and I ordered a wheat grinder ya’ll!!!! I will be making my own flour… so domestic, I tell you 😉 )
Get excited. I’m thinking I’ll do a video once I get the hang of it!!
PS – I have some recipes in the works for you guys… thanks for being patient!!! xoxo
